Please can you help?
Could we ask all parents or guardians to write a brief testimonial that can be added to the Silverhill School and Day Nursery website. This can be just a few sentences describing your experience and satisfaction. We care about how people feel and positive feedback will help us to grow the school into the future. Thank you for your continued support.
Babies… This week we have been looking at colours and shapes through a variety of activities from rolling vehicles through different coloured paints to providing a variety of shaped objects in the play dough. In both cases we were looking at what printed patterns were created. This was an opportunity to extend the children’s knowledge of colours and shapes and allow them to work alongside their peers, encouraging social interaction, hearing each other’s names and talking about what they could see. In turn this led to new words and repeated refrains. With support the babies also spent time solving lots of different shape sorters and puzzles, this has helped with their hand eye coordination alongside their fine motor skills. We have also enjoyed going on walks around the grounds, talking about the colours we could see around us, and spotting lots beautiful flowers.
Next week – With the warm weather to continue we will be spending lots of time outside, exploring in the garden and around the grounds. We will be proving sand and water play in the garden for the children to investigate with. This will be a great opportunity to extend their language skills and sensory experiences.
Acorn… This week have continued the book of the term, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. The Acorns sequenced the story by using pictures from the book and tried really hard to put them in the right order. Sabena brought in her laptop this week and the children explored it by using the paint programme. The children selected their colours and drew pictures using the mouse pad, they also explored the different letters on the keys and did some typing. This week we also started our ‘wake and shake’ morning song. This allows the children to dance out any wriggles before the day starts.
Next week-we will continue our work with naming our emotions. We plan to use the mirrors to explore our own emotions. We also plan on exploring water play and practicing our pouring and emptying control. Polite reminder: Sports day Next Tuesday and Nursery Forest School ‘Stay and Play’ session 26th July, 9.30am-10.30am.
Hedgehogs… This week the children have showed lots of interest in our ‘Three Little Pigs’ puppets, taking it in turns to take on the role of various characters! Lots of the children are able to look at the pictures in the book and relay the story from memory now whilst sat in small groups which demonstrates brilliant memory and attention skills. We have made sure to continue practicing our sports day races in preparation for next week, the children are great at jumping the hurdles! We have made sure to take our toys and drawing resources outdoors this week to make the most of the glorious sunshine! Please don’t forget to supply sun cream and a hat for your children!
Next week – We are hoping that the weather stays sunny so that we can get out and about around the school grounds! We have heard that there are some baby woodpeckers on site so it would be lovely if we could find them! We will be working on following a string of instructions e.g. can you take two steps, jump in the air and then sit on your bottom? This will test the children’s concentrations and listening skills! The children have shown an interest in bubble play recently so we will attempt to make giant bubbles outdoors using a tuff tray and a hula hoop! Polite reminder: Sports day Next Tuesday and Nursery Forest School ‘Stay and Play’ session 26th July, 9.30am-10.30am.
Squirrels… This week most of the children have been focusing on pre-school preparation, we have taken part in fine motor skill activities such as threading, dry wipe boards and peg boards. We have also had a couple more visits over to our new classes. The children have been making a variety of pictures ready for our summer display and creating footprints to make flip flops! We have had a real interest in ‘Mechanico’ and using nuts and bolts to join construction materials together.
Next week- the children will be taking part in sports day, they have been practicing very hard and can’t wait to perform for you all! The children will be learning about sun safety and what we need to do to stay safe in the sun. The children will be practicing how to put sun cream on using babies and dressing them to prepare for hot weather. We will also be adding to our summer theme and having our own ice cream parlour, using ice cream cone and shaving foam. Polite reminder: Sports day Next Tuesday and Nursery Forest School ‘Stay and Play’ session 26th July, 9.30am-10.30am.
Bunnies… This week’s phonic letter was quite tricky but we used the computer to find out a little bit more about yodelling and also stretched our muscles with some impromptu yoga moves. The remaining two weeks will be spent recapping and revisiting all the phonic sounds we have covered and as an extension we are trying a little bit of word building.
Next week is going to be a very busy week with Sports Day on Tuesday and our school trip on Thursday. Please remember to bring in your children by 10am on Tuesday if they are not normally in. Can ALL children have sun cream applied prior to coming to Pre-School and be dressed in their PE kit with full water bottles and sun hats. Thank you for your support. For the trip on Thursday, ALL children should be dressed in their PE kit with sun hats and sun cream applied. Please could we also ask that you put your children in appropriate footwear that they can put on and off themselves as we will be visiting the play barn. Don’t forget a backpack that your child can carry themselves with their snacks, lunch (if school are not providing) and of course water bottles! Please remember we are a nut free school so NO NUTS or glass bottles for the picnic. If you wish to bring in your pound coin for the tractor ride before next Thursday we have a tin in the classroom.
Owls… This week lots of the children have had visits to their new schools and some teachers have visited us at Silverhill. We have been talking a lot about ‘big school’ and have been drawing ourselves in our new uniforms. We have finished the last phonic sound and letter and will be recapping over all sounds during the last two weeks. We have enjoyed time in the orchard on the climbing frame and swings and have been practicing for sports day next week. The tool bench has been a big hit and some lovely creations have been made with the big bricks.
Next week-Fingers crossed for a sunny sports day on Tuesday which starts at 10.30 for the Pre-School children. Please remember to bring in your children by 10am. We will also be going on our trip to Cattle Country on Thursday, it looks to be sunny so please ensure sun cream is applied before arriving and they have a hat and a full water bottle. If you would like your child to take part in the tractor ride please bring in £1 and give to Mrs Vile, this can be done before Thursday. Tapestry will finish on Wednesday 5th July to enable it to be transferred to a memory stick before your child leaves which you can purchase from the office for £5. Here’s to a lovely sunny last few weeks.
Reception… Reception has been writing about the summer and what they might do on a sunny day in the garden. We have been looking at simple sums with money (1p, 2p and 5p coins). In Topic the children have been continuing to learn about mini beasts. They wrote invitations for their friends to ‘The Ugly Bug Ball’, having read the story together in class and they made their bug hats to wear to the ball.
