Changes to staffing for this new School Year…It is with great pleasure that we welcome into the Baby Unit, Courtney Powell. Courtney has lots of experience in childcare and has been qualified for over 7 years. She comes highly recommended to us from a nursery in Bradford on Avon. We are all very pleased she is joining our team. Also joining the Baby Unit from Pre-School is Sarah Brankin, Sarah has lots of amazing experience and will be an asset to this department. Hannah is very excited to make the move from Babies to join Laura and Leanne in the Hedgehog class. A happy, friendly qualified practitioner Hannah will bring lots of enthusiasm and great ideas. Chloe and Lutz Mae remain as the Squirrel’s practitioners but will be joined from October by Isabelle Hancock who is returning after her maternity leave. Sabena and Martine stay with the Acorns and will be joined in November by Hayley Andoniou who also returns to us after a maternity leave.  We are also lucky to have Serena in Nursery who works across all classes. What a fantastic year we are going to have with all these talented early years’ practitioners.

Welcome Back…A huge welcome to all the new children and families who have joined Babies, Nursery or Pre-School this week and welcome back to all those who have been part of Silverhill for some time. The first few weeks while your child is settling into their class is a time of crucial importance. The start of any school year is an exciting time filled with new experiences, new faces, new rooms and routines. The first few weeks we will be getting to know your child both as an individual and as part of their new class, encouraging them to try a variety of new activities, use a variety of resources and explore their new environment, whilst meet new people and forming relationships. While some children will adjust fairly easily to the new environment and new routines, others will take longer to feel comfortable and secure. The lure of the toys doesn’t always compensate! The experience can be overwhelming for some young children especially if they have not had experience of another form of care outside of the family. We take steps to ensure that this transition goes as smoothly as possible.

Partnerships…Working in partnership with parents and carers is central to our ethos and sharing information will help us to appreciate and understand each child’s needs, building a shared understanding of how your child can reach their full potential in preparation for their future success. Tapestry builds a very special diary of a child’s experiences and journey through their early years. Using photos, videos and diary entries, both practitioners, parents or carers, ‘weave’ the story of the child, enabling these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each unique life. Therefore your contribution to your child’s Tapestry account is invaluable. We look forward to viewing lots of photographs and experiences from home in this new school year.

Newsletter…At present the Silverhill School Early Years Department weekly ‘Newsletter’ that has been in place in its present format for several years. This is issued every Friday electronically via the school website and highlights important dates as well as information about some activities your child has been experiencing in their class. Over the past year we have noticed a change in the way parents view the weekly newsletter and with this in mind we have developed a very short questionnaire in hard copy for everyone to complete and return to their class practitioners by Tuesday 10th September. We thank you in advance for your participation.
