This Week- We have been mark making with a variety of different methods such as rolling vehicles through paint, shaving foam and glitter and making marks with sand and glue. We have also experimented with water, sand and paint. We have also been using our fine and gross motor skills to cut out and mould our play dough on the table. We have been building with different types of blocks using number language such as counting whilst making towers. We used the animals in some of these activities by making houses for them to stay in; we were able to practice our animal noises and identify which sound came from which animal. We had a stay and play with our baby room parents where we played with sand and different textures objects and got to know one another’s parents and children.
Next Week– We will be looking at Halloween, doing a number of activities based around Halloween such as creating scary cakes and we will be attending the Halloween disco. (Tickets can be purchased for the disco on Thursday 20th October, £2 each). We also will be carrying on with numbers, counting and stacking objects, singing and improving our number language. Photos will be taken on Monday 17th October at 9am.
Please Remember– The baby unit opens at 8am and Closes at 6pm. Please ensure that your child has spare clothes and suitable clothing e.g coats, hat etc. for going outside as it is beginning to get chilly. Forest School is being held on Saturday 15th October 10am-12pm where there will be lots of fun group activities for the whole family to get involved in! It would be great to see you all 🙂
This Week- The Acorn children have been focusing on starting our Halloween crafts by giving the children the option of making a cat, pumpkin or a ghost which you can now see, hanging up in the room. Children have also enjoyed playing with the play dough and shown a big interest in rolling the play dough using a rolling pin. We have also practiced our fine motor skills using tweezers to pick up different Halloween creatures from our spider web basket. Acorns have really enjoyed dressing up in Halloween outfits especially showing a particular interest in being a “spider” and “witches”. This week in forest school we attempted to make a large den using lots of sticks and branches to hide inside it 🙂
Next Week – Acorns will be creating Halloween pictures using stencils and stickers. We will also be collecting sticks to make magic wands to go with our dressing up clothes. Children have been mentioning ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ whilst role playing in the home corner, so to follow their interests we will be introducing some warm and cold activities.
Please Remember– Halloween disco 20th October 3pm-3.30pm the tickets are £2. Please remember it is also photo day for the hedgehogs class on the 20th this includes individual and class photos. Forest school will be cancelled due to photos next week.
This Week – The Hedgehog class went for a lovely walk around the school grounds. We collected lots of conkers and observed the changes in our environment due to the weather/season. The children had lots of fun running across the field and jumping on the crunchy leaves! We created a den made of sticks at forest school on Wednesday. The children enjoyed this so much that we decided to make a den in our classroom too. We filled it with comfy cushions and our sensory light box, we used the den to read stories and sing some songs. We have now started our Halloween display and the Hedgehog children have been painting bats and pumpkins for this!
Next week – We will be continuing with our Halloween crafts, making pumpkins, ghosts and much more. We will also be focusing on the children’s sensory development and different textures such as slime and shaving foam. We will be exploring our primary colours and how they can be changed using different mixing methods.
Please Remember– FOSS shop are holding a Halloween disco 3-3.30pm on the 20th, the tickets are £2 and an extra £1 for glitter tattoos. Please remember it is also photo day for the hedgehogs class on the 20th this includes individual and class photos. Forest school will be cancelled due to photos next week.
This Week– The Squirrels class have been enjoying Halloween activities, making Halloween masks and spiders for our display. They have loved seeing our display come to life with things they have made, come and see the children’s amazing work. We have been getting very excited for our Halloween disco! We have also been enjoying group singing activities outside such as “Farmer’s in his den”, helping to encourage new and special friendships. We went for a lovely walk and looked at the changes in the environment.
Next Week- As the children have shown a lot of interest in water play, we will be using different sinking and floating objects in the water tray, helping the children’s understanding of why and how things happen, as well as experimenting with different textures. We will also be continuing our Halloween crafts and making Halloween tea light holders!
Please Remember– To sign your child in and out each day. Also please provide appropriate winter clothing for outdoors including welly boots and puddle suits. This Week – We have spent time studying the Take One Picture Painting (Paul Rubens ‘A Roman Triumph’). The children have created junk models from their own imaginations and these will be proudly presented at a whole school assembly in front of the upper school children next week. We are delighted with the creations they have made and the enjoyment they have had making them. Well done Bunnies. At Forest School we lit our first fire and had a safety lesson encouraging the children to ‘be safe’ around the fire with a view to toasting marshmallows in the near future. In the classroom we have provided a planting activity talking about what plants, bulbs and seeds need to grow. We have been learning a song to help us remember the sequence of growth.
Next Week- We will have a photographer on site who will be taking whole class and individual photos on Tuesday. On Wednesday we will be going on our first Pre-School trip to Westonbirt, which we are very excited about. On Thursday during the school Assembly we will be ‘showing off’ our Take One Picture models and during the afternoon we will be taking the children into a Halloween disco.
Please Remember – On Tuesday please remember to dress your child in SCHOOL UNIFORM and not forest school clothing. On Wednesday bring appropriate clothing depending on the weather for our school trip, not forgetting a pack lunch filled with lovely goodies your child will like. (Strictly no nuts please, thank you.) Thursday is the Halloween disco and so if you have not purchased your tickets please do so ASAP. If your child is in on Thursdays please could you hand your tickets in to us as we will be taking them to the disco. You are welcome to bring in a costume in a bag for us to change them into.
This Week– We have begun learning the songs for our Christmas play. You may hear your children singing Christmas songs at home. In your child’s drawer there should be some lyrics. Please take them home so you can sing along with them. We have really enjoyed taking part in ‘take one picture’, enjoying arts and crafts, inspired by “a Roman triumph”. The children have come up with their own ideas, with a little support to connect it all together. They have made some wonderful masterpieces. The children will be able to take these home, the later part of next week after a whole school assembly next Thursday. The children noticed a fire in the famous painting. Therefore during forest school this week, we decided to light a fire in the fire pit. The children learned some basic safety skills and were very good at responding to the rules and boundaries during this time. It was very exciting.
Next week – We will be having photographs on Tuesday. These will be held in the afternoon, if you would like to bring in a spare set of clothes in case your child gets messy this is fine. Wednesday will be our school trip to Westonbirt. Please dress your child according to the weather. We recommend Wellington boots whatever the weather and waterproofs. Thursday is the Halloween disco 3.00-3.30pm it is £2 a ticket if you would like your child to attend, this can be collected from FOSS. Their costume can be put in their bag and we can change them before the party. We are hoping to collect lots of leaves from Westonbirt and making leaf bowls from them. Happy crafting!!
