Babies…

This Week– We have been encouraging colours through different adult led and child led activities. This has be encouraged through the children’s free play, by introducing different coloured shapes, paints and objects into their every day situations. We have introduced a chalk board area into our play, where the children have the opportunity to free flow and make marks using different coloured chalks. We have encouraged them to do wiggly worms, snakes, Sun, dots and line in a back and forth motion. We have been exploring the outdoors in our baby garden, encouraging movement in different ways, exploring textures and incorporating every day objects and situations into their play such as playing in the mud kitchen, making food and drink using pretend food and water. We have also encouraged simple arrangements and block towers using our large foam mega blocks.

Next Week– We are going to be encouraging the children to come down the stairs on their front and climbing back up on their fronts also. We would like to encourage the parents to take part in these activities through the time they spend with their child. This will encourage their independence, stability and promote the use of their gross motor skills. We will also carry on developing the children’s awareness of shapes and colours by using simple shapes and arrangements to acknowledge which is which. We will also be experimenting with colours through painting, mark making using different tools and in our new chalk area.

Please Remember-   To label your children’s clothes. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. Acorns…

This Week– We have been developing our cafe role play area still. We have also started new display. Acorn’s have been focusing on ‘The hungry caterpillar’ story as this helps to develop counting skills and also encourages healthy eating. We have started to make the caterpillar using different shades of green paint. It’s going to be a busy and messy few weeks as we have lots more to do. We also had lots of fun at forest school, pretending to make stick houses and collecting different types of leaves. We had lots of fun!

Next Week– Acorns will be focusing on the first fruit, an apple, the hungry caterpillar ate in the story on its journey to becoming a butterfly. We will be doing some apple printing, making apple crumbles and practising our cutting skills, cutting up apples at snack time. Acorns are also going to be making some apples to display on our hungry caterpillar display board. In the story the hungry caterpillar eats ‘one’ apple so Acorns are also going to be focusing on the number 1 through counting activities.

Owls…

This Week– We have been talking about healthy eating. The children have made their own fruit salad, using knives to chop their fruit small. Remembering to keep safe while using these dangerous tools. We discussed where the fruit grew as lots of children thought it grew underground. During carpet time we sorted fruit into healthy and not so healthy foods, we were great at knowing the healthy foods! We then used magazines to cut out pictures of foods, sticking them and sorting them. The children have loved playing with the farm, building the houses and role playing with the animals, we talked about animals and their babies, learning through song, again we used the computer to find out information on these animals.

Next Week– Our phonic will be ‘d’. During half term it will be Chinese New Year, we will be celebrating this in our classrooms next week through food tasting and crafts such as paper lanterns. We will also look closely at Chinese print and how it varies from English. Please if you have anything relevant to share we would love to see it. We will use the internet to find out about Chinese New Year and look at the lion dance and Chinese music. We may even participate in our own lion dance!

We have made some delicious fruit kebabs, using knives to cut the fruit making sure we hold them correctly.  We discussed where different fruits come from and as a group we observed the different shapes, colours and textures of different fruits and vegetables. We then created our own paintings using the fruit.  We were able to make some beautiful pictures to take home. We shared with each other all the ‘a’ objects from homed and came up with lots of other words beginning with ‘a’ including Antarctica!
