Babies…

This Week– We have been developing the children’s maths awareness of numbers trough the enjoyment of nursery rhymes and songs. We have been encouraging them to take part, using their hands for actions and visual counting. We have also been encouraging the children to be more independent during experiences such as feeding and drinking during break, lunch and dinner using their own spoons and forks. This supports the development of their hand, eye coordination and fine motor skills. We have been exploring our senses by tasting our own pancakes and celebrating Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Years. We will be celebrating World Book Day in one week’s time. We would like to encourage the parents to support their child’s learning by bringing in their children’s favourite books which we can share during story times. This will enable us to share the stories with the children, encouraging them to turn pages and recognise familiar characters by vocally speaking and visually pointing.

Next Week– We will continue developing the children’s maths awareness through the enjoyment of action rhymes and song using a variety of different resources such as books, musical CD’s, animal and people from our small world. We will also follow on from last week by developing the opportunities for independence during breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack times alongside times for getting dressed and putting our shoes on and climbing the stairs. The children will be given the opportunity to handle books and materials with interest as we will be looking at the children’s favourite stories leading up to world book day. Please do not hesitate to bring in your child’s favourite story to share with friends.

Please Remember-   To label your children’s clothes. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. If you have not yet signed up please let Megan or Sarah know. Please ensure you sign your child in & out every day. Breakfast is served between 8.00 – 8.30am.

Acorns…

This Week– We have had a lot of events to celebrate! We have had pancake day, which was great fun and we were busy tasting different pancake toppings on yummy warm pancakes. We have also been flipping pancakes in the role play area and making some real pancakes using raisins, flour, maltesers and lemons. We have also celebrated Valentine’s Day on Wednesday and acorns painted some rice red and pink to explore in the tray with red petals, red and pink feathers and lots of red glitter. We have hopefully given out all our Valentine surprises to our Mummies and Daddies this week. We have also enjoyed using the gymnastics equipment in the hall and the children have had lots of fun

Next Week– We will be tasting some delicious Chinese food and we will be changing the home corner into a Chinese restaurant. We are also making a fruit flan and focusing on three plums from our “the very hungry caterpillar” story. It is going to be another busy and fun week!

Please Remember-  To check your children’s drawers. To label your children’s clothes. It is very important that parents not only close, but lock the gate when arriving/leaving the nursery garden. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. If you have not yet signed up please let Megan or Sarah know.  Squirrels…

This Week– What a busy week we have had with all the celebrations with Valentine’s Day, Pancake Day and the start of Chinese New Year. We have done many activities to celebrate while supporting the children’s learning and development. We began by decorating yummy pancakes, using chocolate spread and decorations. We spread on the chocolate and used the smarties and chocolate buttons talking about size big and little. The children then rolled them up and ate them for snack yum yum. We then decorated a pancake in a frying pan developing our cutting skills. Using our tripod grip holding a pen with control we drew circles representing the decorations. We had lots of fun doing a pancake race, in small groups we made our own pancakes with playdough, practiced flipping them in the pan then having a race with our peers. The children laughed lots when flipping the pancakes and we tried really hard to flip them really high. Also this week we made yummy cakes for Valentine’s Day to share with the people we love. We mixed krispies in with white chocolate and stuck a love heart on top. We then done some threading to use our fine motor skills on pipe cleaners with cheerios, these were to hang in our garden for the birds. We bent them into heart shapes for Valentine’s Day. At the end of the week we had a sensory tray for Chinese New Year which contained rice and materials. We used the chop sticks to practice picking things up, it was tricky but the children used their concentration and hand and eye co-ordination.

Next Week– We will be making a dragon, doing a dance and chop stick painting.

Please Remember-  To check your children’s drawers. To label your children’s clothes. It is very important that parents not only close, but lock the gate when arriving/leaving the nursery garden. Hedgehogs…

This Week- The Hedgehogs class have been celebrating Valentine’s Day this week!  We have been talking about people who are special to us and what we love about them! We added pink and red rice play to our sensory tray as well as heart shaped materials for the children to explore various textures! We have also had pancake day this week, we gave the children free rein of toppings and treats so that they could create their own yummy pancakes – these seemed to go down very well. We have definitely made the most of having the school to ourselves this week – we have been in the hall practising our dance and gymnastic skills as well as taking lots of walks to explore the school grounds!

Next Week– As Chinese New Year is a two week celebration, we will be continuing with activities to celebrate this. We will be doing our Chinese food tasting including noodles, spring rolls, sweet and sour sauce etc. We will also be making some lanterns and lucky dragons! We have bought some water beads tom add to our messy tray due to the children being so interested in texture play too!
