We have created a fire work display using the children art work. We have also been outside to look at the new mini bus and explore the autumn leaves. On Tuesday we had our very own Halloween disco all the children dressed up and looked amazing, dancing away to the music. We have been incorporating yoga, dough disco, PE, Music and Movement and action songs into our weekly activities.

Please feel free to upload any pictures of your bonfire night experience! We will also be looking at Remembrance Sunday looking at poppies and the colour red. Poppies will be on sale at the main office if anyone would like to purchase one.

Please Remember-  To check your children’s drawers as there have been lots of letters and invitations handed out recently, thank you. To label your children’s clothes. It is very important that parents not only close, but lock both bolts on the gate when arriving/leaving the nursery garden. Acorns…

This Week– Acorns have been focusing on Halloween activities such as making orange rice Krispy cakes with little green surprises on top. They have also helped carve a pumpkin and scooped out all of the seeds inside and made a hand printed face on the front. We have also made a few sensory bags with different materials inside for the children to explore a range of textures. Acorns also had their first session of forest school this week, which went really well, all of the children really enjoyed an Autumn story about a squirrel and they all enjoyed exploring around the grounds. We were also lucky to have a visit from the hedgehog lady who explained what hedgehogs do and where they live etc so the children all had the chance to see one as well.

Next Week– Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing ie, coat and hat.  Acorns will be making some firework pictures, by flicking the paint across the paper. We will also be making pitta pizza’s and also creating a cosy corner with a pretend fireplace in our home corner. We may also have some sparklers to watch in the garden during the week

Squirrels…

This Week– In the squirrels class this week we have celebrated Halloween by doing various activities. We had fun carving a pumpkin using our muscles to scoop out the middle, use a hammer to bang in a star shape cutter and used our fine motor skills drawing on the pumpkin with a pen. We have played games such as ‘where’s the ghost?’ and ‘musical chairs’ plus also listened to Halloween music. We had loads of fun at the Halloween disco and dressing up in our outfits. We have explored the Halloween sensory tray and especially liked the wind up Halloween characters watching them walk and hop along the tray. We started our forest school again this week, we all wrapped up and explored the forest school area. We also celebrated bonfire night this week by making marshmallow sparkles, dipping the marshmallows in chocolate or icing then into sprinkles yum yum. The children have loved the road table this week they have taken a big interest in the trains.

Owls…

This Week– We have started to learn our phonics starting with ‘h’.  The children have been learning how to write it and what things begin with this sound.  This tied in with our hedgehog visit which was very interesting, we never knew that they could swim. We also had our first forest schools lesson, we explored the outside environment, played a finding game and listened to a story about squirrels it was great fun.  We have now began learning Christmas songs (it is only 8 weeks away).

Next Week– Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing ie, coat and hat.  Our phonic will be ‘p’.  Please help your child to find items to bring in that start with ‘p’.  We will talk about Poppy’s and why we wear them.  We are following on our hedgehog theme and we will make our own Hedgehogs out of clay.  We will also be letting you know what part your child will play in the nativity.

In your child’s drawers should be celebration and achievement certificates, please fill them in and hand them to us so we can celebrate them during our assembly.

Bunnies…

This Week– The topic for this week has been aimed around Hedgehogs and hibernation. We have been fortunate enough to have had a visit from Yvonne Cox (Hedgehog Rescue) who brought in a real Hedgehog for us to look at. We’ve listened to a lovely story about Hovis the Hedgehog which reminded us for the need to check the bonfire before lighting it.   We have introduced our very first phonic sound, ‘h’. Thank you for encouraging your children to bring in objects from home this helps with the understanding of the sound and gives them confidence to talk about what they have found. Our new vets role play area has sparked some imaginative play and we continue this into next week. Our first forest school session included exploring our surroundings and taking part in a team game finding natural objects.

Next Week– Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing ie, coat and hat. Our phonic sound will be ‘p’ as we will be talking to the children about the significance of the Poppy and attending a whole school remembrance assembly. If you haven’t yet signed up for a ten minute slot on parents evening and wish to do so the times available are in the classroom near the signing in sheet. We wish you a wonderfully autumnal weekend ahead.
