Babies…

This Week- The children and staff sat on blankets in the garden to pick the pea pods from the pea plants we grew earlier in this year. I also bought some pea pods so we would have lots to eat. Each child had plenty of pea pods and carers helped them to pop each pod and pick out the peas to explore and eat. We sang the number rhyme ‘5 Fat Peas In A Pea Pod Pressed. One Grew, Two grew And So Did All The Rest They Grew And They Grew They Grew And Did Not Stop Until One Day The Pea Pod POPPED!’ This song gives the children enjoyment of number language while experiencing a fun activity. Once the children had finished this activity they used the empty pea pods and some peas to pretend cooking in the mud kitchen. We made the most of the recent good weather to play in the paddling pools in the garden and took many of the indoor activities such as painting into the garden where some of the children painted their hands, tummies, legs and arms as they only had their nappies on to keep cool. I can safely say we used our senses this week to explore the world around us.

Next Week- Check on our Pumpkin seeds we planted earlier this year. They are now small plants and will hopefully grow some pumpkins ready for Halloween in October. Continuing our Olympics theme we will take some P.E equipment outside to get our bodies moving and experience some different sporting activities.

Please Remember- Please ensure your child has nappies and wipes for their session. Please ensure to sign in and out each session. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. Can we please remind parents that we do not open until 8am and close at 6pm, please allow time to feed back about your childs day.

Acorns…

This Week- We have been enjoying the summer weather and based most of our activities outside in the garden which includes from jumping in the swimming pools, hopscotch water sprinkler and exploring with water balloons which the children had lots of fun with during forest schools this week. We have also designed our own farm yard adding a range of different textured grounds which includes from hay, soil, sand and bark and made everything mix together to act like a real muddy farm which also had farm animals and pens for them as well. The children started to talk about the animals that they had seen before. Acorns also enjoyed the animal printing activity afterwards.

Next Week- As all of the children enjoyed the water balloons so much we will be making more during the week and also printing with them as well. We are also going to make our own letters to post to all of our families at home so look out for them soon

Please Remember- Children should not be wearing open toe shoes. It is very important that parents not only close, but lock the gate when arriving/leaving the nursery garden. Please remember to apply your child’s sun cream before dropping them into nursery as well as providing cream for us too use throughout the day. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. If you have not yet signed up please let Megan or Sarah know. Please ensure you sign your child in & out every day.

Squirrels…

This Week- Due to the lovely weather this week we ended up changing our plans! We spend the week outdoors, splashing in the paddling pool, running through our water hopscotch and playing with water balloons! The children have also explored ice play! We had lots of left over water balloons so we blew them up and used them for balloon printing! The children created pastel coloured paints for this activity by mixing white with the primary colours! The squirrels children have been very intreeged by the vegetables growing in the nursery garden and have been watering and picking our green beans as well as looking after the pumpkins.

Next Week- We will be continuing our music and movement planning as we did not have the opportunity this week! We will be taking the children to the school pavilion where they will have space to dance, run and make movement to music! Squirrels always enjoy the sticky kids dance tracks so we will be taking this with us! We are wanting to explore yoga with the children next week, fingers crossed the weather stays nice so that we can do this on the field as a change of scenery for the children!

Please Remember- The last official day for children moving to pre school in September will be Wednesday 31st August. To bring in a holiday photo or upload one onto tapestry to discuss with the class. To label your children’s clothes. Children should not be wearing open toe shoes. It is very important that parents not only close, but lock the gate when arriving/leaving the nursery garden. Hedgehogs…

This Week- We have thoroughly enjoyed the hot weather and hope it continues. All of the children coped really well with the heat. We have made the absolute most of it by asking parents and children to bring in their swimming costumes and towels. We played on the water hop scotch which squirts water when children jump on the numbers therefore incorporating numbers into our water play. We are going to focus more on number and maths so this was a fantastic link. When it got too hot in the sun we played with water and paint brushes in the shade working on our fine and gross motor skills painting water onto the ground. The children were surprised at how quickly the marks they made disappeared.

Next Week- We will be enjoying more of the sunshine and making the most of the outdoors. We will be collecting sticks for us to paint and display them in our classroom. Also we will be making more of the characters out of ‘sharing the shell’.
