Babies…

This Week- We have been continuing our Olympic theme adding to a wall display and exploring different types of sporting equipment. We played with hockey sticks and balls, bats and balls, egg and spoon race and kicking footballs. We also spent some time attempting to complete inset puzzles of appropriate levels. While sitting with each child we used lots of language to extend their knowledge and used Makaton signs for the animals in the puzzles. We have been reading books and singing songs and rhymes to encourage language and use of number knowledge. The children used bricks to build and balance and problem solve whilst building towers. We also noticed lots of the older children who are now two and who will be moving down to The Acorns class in September helping the younger members of the group which was lovely to see. These older children are now beginning their settling in sessions in nursery.

Next Week- Continuing Olympic theme with lots of outdoor activities. Activities which involve understanding 1 and 2 e.g. Please give me 1 car. Please give me 2 cars etc.

Please Remember- Please ensure your child has nappies and wipes for their session. Please ensure to sign in and out each session. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. Can we please remind parents that we do not open until 8am and close at 6pm, please allow time to feed back about your childs day.

Acorns…

This Week- We have been enjoying blowing up balloons, dipping them in paint and using them for paint printing. Acorns have also been making their own pictures ready to post as a letter to their families next week. During forest school we have been designing our own leaf prints, tying leaves and sticks together ready to use for a leaf printing activity next week. We have also been exploring the different textures and sounds of coloured rice. They have been measuring rice into cups and also listening to the sound the rice makes when it falls off the items such as a spoon etc.

Next Week- As all of the children enjoyed the rice activities this week, next week we will be making musical instruments, where we will measure and pour rice into balloons. We will also be exploring more into musical activities such as dancing and singing to sticky kids music.

Please Remember- Children should not be wearing open toe shoes. It is very important that parents not only close, but lock the gate when arriving/leaving the nursery garden. Please remember to apply your child’s sun cream before dropping them into nursery as well as providing cream for us too use throughout the day. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. If you have not yet signed up please let Megan or Sarah know. Please ensure you sign your child in & out every day.

Squirrels…

This Week- We have been doing lots of music and movement such as sticky kids and have been following directions and listening to instructions. We also have been doing lots of different yoga moves practising our balancing skills and moving our bodies in different ways. We went for a play in scamps to explore, visit siblings and Anita to. We have been making paper Mache balloons for the new birthday hot air balloon display by spreading the glue mixture all over the balloon and sticking on the newspaper, we did get very messy and done many different layers. We explored the texture of shaving foam and sand using our hands to mix it together and making marks in it with our fingers. We have been practising to pour our own milk at snack time developing good control and a steady hand, we done very well with very little spillages. Some children have been talking about day trips out with the family especially to Lego Land.  The children have been discussing about pirates from their experiences so we have begun our pirate ship display and activities on pirates.

Next Week- We will be doing lots on pirates by finishing the display, making maps, swords and hand print pirates. We will also be making our own pirate ship in the home corner and exploring our pirate sensory tray. If you have any outfits, stories or toys to do with pirates that your child would like to bring in to share with their friends, we would love to do a show and tell at circle time and use them to support our pirate theme.

Hedgehogs…

This Week- We enjoyed the summer weather and went for a summer walk around the school grounds. We collected some bits and pieces that we seen along the way, played on the swings and manoeuvred over and under the wooden apparatus. We have made a ‘shapes and numbers in the environment’ board, we have asked parents to bring in some pictures showing us what shapes and numbers you have spotted when out and about. Please continue to do this if you see anything and bring them in for us to share. We have been adding pictures to our summer display board of ‘our holidays’ please continue to share these with us, day trips also make great pictures to display and share with our friends. We have been using lots of paint to make pictures and sticking lots of different materials together.  We used sand and glue and made some great shell pictures to add onto our summer display board. We continue to try and prepare the children for preschool doing activities which encourage counting and writing. We are perfecting how to put on our own coats, socks and shoes and changing clothes without assistance. All of the children are doing really well.

Next Week- We are going to focus on numbers again, playing with and recognising numbers.
