Extra pre school week in Owls class room

Babies…

This Week- We have Read the story ‘Goldilocks And The Three Bears’ which was brought to school by one of the children. This story involved counting, size and ordering. Inside the three bears cottage, after reading the story we set up the bears breakfast table with all the appropriate props. We extended this drama activity by offering porridge oats and milk for the children to mix and feed to the bears. Let’s just say it was an early morning party, even Goldilocks had her fair share of porridge. We had lots of fun while singing number rhymes and songs as well as taking this opportunity for extending language. We spent a lovely sunny morning in the garden harvesting our potatoes which we planted earlier this year. The children searched the soil for potatoes of all sizes. They pretended to cook them in their outside home corner area. Then we washed the potatoes in a bowl of water and took them to the cookery room where they were cooked and ready for the children to eat with their dinner. They smelt and tasted lovely and every child ate all their home grown potato. The new pirate water play trough was a great asset to the Baby Unit, with lots of wet but happy babies!

Next Week- We will continue our teddy bear theme by encouraging the children to make their own sandwiches with us ready for a Teddy Bears Picnic. So if each child would like to bring a teddy bear to Baby Unit next week we will have a low-key teddy bears picnic in the beautiful school grounds.

Please Remember- Please ensure your child has nappies and wipes for their session. Please ensure to sign in and out each session. Please join us in show casing your child’s developments, achievements and interests on their online journal on Tapestry. Can we please remind parents that we do not open until 8am and close at 6pm, please allow time to feed back about your childs day.

We have also had the ball pit out and have been hiding items within the coloured balls and then counting on items that we can see peeping through. We have also focused on dancing and movements to the beat, as the children always like to dance to lots of songs/rhymes. In Forest skills this week we have been practicing our hammering skills and finding different sized sticks to hammer into the ground.

Next Week- We will be enjoying some cooking activities and also exploring in different food activities, such as trialling out a range of ingredients for children to taste.

Also lots of ring games, incorporating singing e.g. Wall flower, sandy girl and duck, duck, goose!

The children will have the chance to create rocky road cakes and we have asked the school chef to provide some pizza dough so that the children can roll, stretch and mould it into shapes of their choice before adding toppings and putting it in to the oven! We will talk to the children about safety in the kitchen and the importance of good hygiene. We will also be exploring textures of various dry foods in our sensory tray, including rice, lentils, pasta and flour.

Hedgehogs…

This Week- We have changed our main display board into a rock pool. We have been discussing the animals which we might find in the rock pool and about how they protect themselves from predators. This was inspired by the children, noticing that the anemone (in ‘sharing a shell’ book) stings the large fish on the nose! They are becoming very inquisitive and asking lots of questions about under the sea. We would like to thank everyone who attended the teddy bears picnic. It was a fantastic morning and the children had lots of fun! Photos will soon be uploaded onto tapestry.

Next Week- We will be using our creative skills to  make creatures to live in our rock pool. We will look at ‘commotion in the ocean’ book as well as it explains about different creatures that live under the sea. The children have really enjoyed using the ‘sharing a shell’ stick puppets with the puppet theatre. I have played the song in the background which the children use as a guide. It’s fantastic listening to their own interpretation of the story. The children are interacting with each other really well. Next week we will continue work on preparing the children for pre school. We’re really trying to encourage dressing/undressing, shoes/socks/coats ect by themselves. It would be fantastic for this to be continued at home.

Bunnies & Owls…

This Week-  We ventured out on our end of year school trip to Puxton Park where we had lots of fun. We had a ride on a bumpy and dusty tractor visiting the cow sheds looking, listening and smelling the calf’s and cows! We had a picnic followed by a tour of the parks animals ending our day having free time playing in the park. We were very proud of all the children they were so well behaved throughout the day and were fantastic ambassadors for Silverhill School.  Well done! Our last forest school session was enjoyed by all, we lit a fire and cooked our own marshmallows counting to ten before getting very sticky eating them up! Wednesday was our last PE session with Mr Wherritt we joined up with the Owls class to play group parachute games with lots of laughter! Thursday was our Leavers Party where we invited the mummy’s and daddy’s to join us celebrate our year in the Bunnies & Owls with a lovely outdoor picnic. We would just like to say a huge thank you for all the wonderful support this year, your generous good wishes cards and gifts overwhelmed us.  We shall miss you all and wish everyone a super summer and all the very very best for Reception!
