Silverhill Weekly News 07~10~16

  • Year 5 & 6 will go swimming at 8.30am on Monday 10th October.
  • Year 2 will immediately follow them.
  • Year 1 will go swimming at 2pm on Monday 10th October.
  • Reception will go swimming at 11am on Tuesday 11th October.
  • Year 4 will visit Winterbourne library at 2pm on Tuesday 11th October.
  • The baby unit will be hosting a Stay & Play session from 9 – 9.45am on Friday 14th October.
  • Reception – have been introduced to r, j, v, y and w. We have enjoyed a very interesting week, meeting Daniel, whose love of helicopters stems from his time in Reception, a fun packed Forest School session with Mrs Hughes and a fantastic Roald Dahl workshop with Mrs Offer. The adults were also impressed with some amazing cvc rhyme writing from all the children.
  • Year 1 – have had an exciting week. Helicopter visit on Monday, Roald Dahl workshop on Thursday and looking at Autumn in between. Adjectives were introduced to describe Autumn. We discussed emotions in our topic.
  • Year 2 – children really enjoyed the helicopter visit on Monday and wrote some delightfully detailed accounts with great vocabulary. The children have also enjoyed our Roald Dahl workshop this week which continued into the classroom with clapping syllables in 2, 3 and 4 syllable words.
  • Year 3 – absolutely loved the Roald Dahl workshop and grasped the moves in super quick time. We were all very impressed! In English the children have been working hard on making their writing more descriptive and they enjoyed our “on site” experience on Thursday to help them describe a setting using their senses.
  • Year 4 – really enjoyed the Roald Dahl workshop, performing as Oompa Loompas. In History they have been learning about the social structure in Egypt with the pharaoh believing that he was God. They designed internet safety posters in ICT and in Maths they’ve been working hard at fractions.
  • Year 5 & 6 – absolutely loved the Roald Dahl workshop. The children performed brilliantly and were a real credit to the school. Year 5 & 6 continue to enjoy Maths Rockx. The children have shown huge improvements in their speed tests. Well done to them all! The helicopter visit was a great treat. The year 6 children asked some very interesting and intelligent questions and found the whole experience very inspirational. In Literacy all year 5 & 6 children have been completing their Literacy writing assessments. The children have worked very hard and the results are very encouraging. Well done again!
