Year 1 Trip to Chepstow Castle

On Thursday 13th February Year 1 had a very enjoyable (if at times wet!) trip to Chepstow Castle. The children were able to see and experience first hand some of the things they have learnt about in the classroom. This included seeing parts of the castle construction such as the arrow slits, battlements, the Bailey and evidence of different sections of the castle. They were also able to see that the castle was built next to a river and near to a forest as well as being built on a hill- just like we had talked about in the classroom – enabling the children to consolidate their learning about geographical choices for building a castle.

The children enjoyed exploring the castle, making their own badge and – of course having a picnic lunch.
